While not all of the John Bean text can be applied directly to the design discipline, some key concepts and strategies discussed over the course of the WID seminars are easily adapted to the design studio:
- Scaffolding exercises
- Informal / Exploratory writing
- Encouraging Revision
- Engaging students by linking their personal experience.
Writing has a place in every phase of a design project from conceptualisation to execution. What emerged from the WID experience was a portfolio of exercises suited to a studio environment and easily applied in courses complimentary to the main design studios.
